Bri’s Finished Patio Tour

patio makeover sarah sherman samuel x design love festI’m thrilled to be sharing a tour of the patio I designed for Bri Emery (aka Design Love Fest) today! If you missed the first post with the “before” images and our inspiration head HERE. Bri does a lot of traveling and I wanted to make her patio feel a bit like a boutique hotel while giving her a staycation space she wants to hang out and entertain in year round.

patio makeover sarah sherman samuel x design love festWe had all the cushions custom made from the prettiest pink outdoor fabric and hung black and white striped curtains on the corner nook to give it a pool cabana feel. The oversized mirrors anchor every other seating area creating repetition and focal points for multiple vignettes. I love having the mix of the delicate white wire chairs mixed with the more solid wood and woven captain chairs.

The pink ones we had made to match the cushions but you can find most of the other pillows here, here, here, and here. The rattan chairs, in the back area, unfortunately turned a lot darker after weathering a few storms but the shape is still beautiful. So, FYI, buyers beware, when it says store indoors during inclement weather, they mean it. The coffee table has since sold out but I love this option as well.

patio makeover sarah sherman samuel x design love festpatio makeover sarah sherman samuel x design love festI pretty much want to head over to Bri’s every day now around happy hour. The patio is at it’s best in the early evening, plus she’s turning into quite the chef. Bri… I’m up for adoption is all I’m saying.

project staycation patio

staycation patio design // Sarah Sherman Samuel x Design Love FestI’m excited to share a kind of a dream project that I’ve been working on for Bri Emery of Design Love Fest. Her patio is TO DIE FOR so when she came to me for help with the design and furniture selects in the space I couldn’t wait to get started. She wanted it to be an ideal space for entertaining and one that felt relaxing, inviting, and had a jungle/loungey/’feel like a hotel’ kind of vibe. I took those descriptive words and pulled together this inspiration board, outlining the ‘staycation patio’ direction visually.

Below is what the space looks like now but we have been busy collecting pieces, getting custom cushions made and plant shopping galore. To see a full tour of the “before” photos check out Bri’s post from today, here. It is going to be so good right?

bri-patio-beforebri-patio-sssxdesignlovefestAbove is all the furniture selects I made for the design board and what will be making their way into the space over the next coming weeks. I designed a wood door to get custom made for a little archway entrance (that’s a little rendering you see on the bottom left), the seat cushions are getting made in this gorgeous pink fabric, and how about those gorgeous woven rattan chairs!? All the sources are listed below. I’m so looking forward to sharing the final space soon and next up is her dining room!

patio before & after

backyard patio // before & afterI realized I’ve shared the far side of our backyard quite a bit, but never posted the final patio/back of the house since we added on the bedroom and laundry room, which has now become a great little landing pad/hang out spot when friends come by. We had the deck built connecting from the laundry room to our bedroom (which you can see the beginnings of here) and although the space is quite small, with a little help from Target we have now made the deck inviting as the rest of the yard i.e. the pergola and the larger patio area.

patio-after6-640patio-after5-640 I started by laying down an outdoor rug which helps to extend the living room right out onto the patio. The french doors both open up onto the patio so on the warm days we truly have the indoor/outdoor living room which we, especially the dogs and Archer, love.

home progress: patio, DIY built-in seating

patio lounge, DIY built-in benches // smitten studiopatio lounge, DIY built-in benches // smitten studioThroughout our renovation we basically gave up complete use of the backyard to the construction crew, piles of garbage, and building supplies etc. Now that things are wrapping up, we are beyond excited to finally be able to use the backyard that we moved from a new modern townhouse into a small fixer upper house to get! I am equally ecstatic that Rupe and I finished another one of our lingering DIY projects, these built-in benches.

patio lounge, DIY built-in benches // smitten studiopatio lounge, DIY built-in benches // smitten studiopatio lounge, DIY built-in benches // smitten studioPreviously this corner of the yard was basically a dumping ground for old plants and old furniture, it was sorrily neglected, but now it’s another full living area (girl likes an outdoor room)! Rupe and I both already took naps on that corner bench (basically immediately after completion, DIYing is exhausting ;)) and I can’t wait to have some people over to properly christen the new space. Clearly the pups appreciate all our handy work too.

patio lounge, DIY built-in benches // smitten studiopatio lounge, DIY built-in benches // smitten studiopatio lounge, DIY built-in benches // smitten studiopatio-crackerpatio lounge, DIY built-in benches // smitten studioThere is a good amount of space back there so I wanted to create a few different conversation areas. The benches we made create a natural lounge area and I tucked a coffee table and some floor cushions around each of them. I also added a small cocktail/dining area in the far corner where we have been having our morning coffee together. The cement floor was in rough shape so I added a large outdoor rug to cover it up but also to tie the space all together.

See the before, the DIY steps, and all of the sources after the jump…
