SSS x SemiHandmade Cabinet Doors!

sarah sherman samuel kitchen cabinet doors for SemiHandmade for IKEAIt’s here, it’s here! Today is launch day for my signature line of cabinet doors I designed for SemiHandmade. If you’ve read my blog for any length of time you probably are not a stranger to SemiHandmade either. I used them in my own kitchen in LA and our A-frame kitchen. As well as some clients kitchens. They create high quality doors to fit on Ikea cabinetry so you can get the look of a custom kitchen without having to pay the price of a custom kitchen and you can use them on some of their bath and media cabinets as well.

I proposed the modern take on the classic bead board and John and his team produced it exactly as I imagined.

I wanted to bring my modern version of the beadboard to market because of its clean design and its versatility. It can easily fit into a farmhouse style home paired with an apron sink and more traditional hardware while still giving the space an updated look. And it works equally as well in a very modern space with cleaner lines and paired down details. The simple geometry of the vertical lines convey a clean foundation without a ton of decoration but just enough detail to add some texture and simple pattern to the room. They have the ability to fit into kitchens of a range of styles depending on what they are paired with.

A few of the colors I knew I had to have as they turn up in my client work and my own home so much, like the blush pink (blush) and the dark green (juniper), so I specified those. From there I of course wanted to make sure we had to all the basics, white, black, off-white etc and then I worked closely with Semihandmade to chose the rest of the colors from thermafoil samples. There is a warm grey (desert grey) which is close to a khaki color and another favorite is Agave (shown directly above) which is similar to my original cabinet color but reads more blue.

And now to share how these doors can work in the living room as well!…

sarah sherman samuel kitchen cabinet doors for SemiHandmade for IKEA I couldn’t be more excited to see this collaboration come to life and I can’t wait to start seeing these doors turn up in peoples homes!

And if you are eyeing the pretty brass knobs and pulls, that is all from my line of hardware with Park Studio! I designed the half moon shapes specifically to coordinate with my cabinet door design. I wanted something that updated our modern take on the beadboard even more and working from my love of simple geometric shapes the half moon shape was the perfect compliment to the clean vertical lines, especially how they can come together to make a full circle.

from the weekend: Gjelina & The Corner Door

6.11-weekend Gjelina Corner Door

This weekend I had my friend Anne in town from San Francisco and we did a mini food tour of a few of my favorite spots around the west side of LA. We made our first stop Friday at the new bar in town, The Corner Door (top right photo), then Saturday we had breakfast at Gjelina (top left photo), then lunch at the Kogi truck on Abbot Kinney, and dinner at Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing. Finally, Sunday we had breakfast at a friends restaurant Oscar’s Cervateca on Rose and then Lunch at Wurstküche. We ended it with another trip to Gjelina for dessert. Pheww… my mouth is watering just thinking about all of the amazing food.

high/low entryway

Today’s high/low look is all about the entryway. This space is often overlooked which is so sad because it is the first thing guests see on arrival. Even if you’re small on space you can find a few special things to make your entry high on style.

entry way - high/lowSO many people ask me about my front door (which I got locally, its by AAW) so I wanted to share a couple different options which look very similar. Also… THAT BENCH. I loved this bench which I found on one of my favorite local furniture shops Empiric Studio and then when I saw Urban Outfitters came out with a version (which I secretly like even more because of the wood) I almost fell over. I don’t have a place for it right now but I want to buy it just because it is so good.

entry way - high/lowThe door hardware is another opportunity to turn the style factor up a notch and the new brass door knobs from Schoolhouse are a great lower cost version.

cabin progress: screen doors

cabin-screen-doorsScreen doors aren’t exactly a design feature, I know, but when it is 90 something degrees outside, no air conditioning in sight, and more mosquitos then sand on the beach, they are something of a necessity. Also, what is a summer cabin without the slap of a screen door? As soon as we got these doors up, the cabin turned into a bug free (well mostly) oasis where the cool breeze blew in from off the water and carried on right through the front door. Heavennn.

cabin-screen-patio-doorsFor the patio screen doors we were able to retrofit the old ones into the new door jam with some woodworking trickery by my dad. For the front, we bought a new one and painted it to match the new front door we installed earlier.

…and don’t mind me in my pajamas up top, yikes… but if you look close at the bottom pic you will see a Rupert photo bomb. oops!

Archie’s Playhouse

modern playhouse // customizing a kit playhouse // sarah sherman samuelJust before Clover arrived, I shared the tour of our family room/Archies playroom that we converted into the new nursery. After stealing away Archie’s playroom we wanted to give him a special place of his own so we  built him a whole damn house! ha Ok it is a tiny house but it is insanely cute and a spot of his own, none the less.

I thought about designing and building my own but with an already too full work load and the baby well on the way, I knew I didn’t have the time so I started looking around for kit playhouses and landed on this one from Wayfair that was the perfect foundation for just a little bit of customization…
