shopping for a console table & entry update

modern console table round-up // smitten studioI’m in the market for a new console table for our entryway, so I’ve scoured the internet for my favorite modern options. You may remember how the space looked before (below) while we were using an existing piece of furniture for the entry table. While I did love the storage, the proportions weren’t great for the space. It stuck out into a walkway a bit too far (too deep) and we also wish it was a lot longer (too squat).

Entryway smitten studioI have since moved the wall hanging to a different spot in the house, repurposed the bar in the spare bedroom, and the gave the rug a new home in the den. So basically, we are starting again from scratch. Below is a peek at how it is coming along and where the console will sit.

entryway progress // smitten studioThe one item I did get so far was this oversized mirror to hang above the console. We had it custom made by a local glass & shower company at the same time that they made our glass shower enclosure (bathroom update soon). We also switched out the door for a more modern wood option (don’t mind the painters tape on the glass we are mid-project on staining and finishing the door). I love how the wood breaks up the white walls. So what do you think? Which long, skinny console would you pick?

  • I love all these beautiful consoles, i love the minimalistic and modern feel. I think the strut and milk options are my favorite!

  • Hi Sarah! Your house is looking so beautiful! I love the new door… it makes the living room look very Palm Springs mid century. Can’t wait to see it styled with a new console table. My favorites are the strut, rustic storage and frame consoles. Say hi to Rupert for me!

    • Hi Holly! Thank you! and great to hear from you! I hope you are doing well in Portland. x

Um, amazing!! Once again looks awesome. I like the brass x-base. The lines are fabulous and of course it’s brass:) what kind of wood is your front door? Love it, great!

  • That door is incredible! What is the actual name of it? I tried to find it at AAW but the only similar one was Retro 19, which had iron instead of glass. Definitely breaks up the white walls beautifully.

    • Hi Anna, It is just like the Retro 19 but with glass instead. I guess they don’t have the exact one on their site. The best thing to do is find one of their local distributors. We went through Stock Building Supply.

  • Brandy

The brass X base. The brass ties in the light fixture.

Sara, I’m totally digging the Mill or the Strut. They both have nice simple lines and geometry. I have personally been in love with the Strut console since I saw it in Bri Emery’s living room, just perfect. Good luck hope you find the right one!

  • I love the rustic storage console and wish I had room for it in my entry. Instead I bought this one from room and board: http://www.roomandboard.com/catalog/living/console-tables/slim-console-tables-in-natural-steel.

I’m a regular reader of your blog and love how you mix heavy work with interior decoration ideas. And all beautifully shot. Well done.
Do you know what’s the name of your kilim – difficult to get the right idea on the Rug Warehouse website with their small pics…

  • I think I might be the only one voting for the Brent! I think the angled legs will complement the angles/lines of the geometric mirror – and the gold legs and wood detail would tie back in well with the rest of the room. Otherwise, the Mill gets my vote. Looking gorgeous !

  • I love what you had before but I can’t wait to see the new setup! The Brent Console is definitely my favorite.

  • Ah, these are all amazing console tables!
I’ve been after a skinny console for ages, but all the good ones are always from American stores, so either don’t ship to the UK or are VERY expensive to ship! The Mill console from CB2 was actually the one I wanted (except in white), but the shipping costs were nearly double the cost of the actual table! :(
For your space though I think I would go for the frame console :)

  • Your house is always in such beautiful condition that I forget you have 2 dogs! My golden retriever sheds so much that it’s almost impossible to keep our place dog hair-free. Just curious, do you vacuum/sweep frequently?

  • I love, love, love the door!! It’s amazing! I initially thought the rustic storage table since you mentioned the storage component in the previous console. But it doesn’t feel mid-century or modern enough for your space. Now I’m thinking the Mill or the Strut. Can’t wait to see which one you pick! Love your house!!

  • I love either the strut or the george. I love how the legs of each piece are similar to the legs of your chair and ottoman in the living room. I looove your front door choice and I think the wood is a lovely addition to the stark white walls as well.

    Hi Sarah
There is a console from EQ3 (http://www.eq3.com/ca/en/p27643/bantam-console-table) that is very similar with the strut. (I know that there is just 2 EQ3 stores in US altough). I really like your front door choice and I was wondering what finish did you choose for the entry door set (nickel or chrome)? Thanks again:)

  • Amalia

    Hi Sarah,

Thanks for responding to my question about white paint-very helpful!
Your living room, front door and new mirror are looking so beautiful. My favourite consoles for the space are the strut, brent and frame :)

  • My pick would be the Brent.. Storage is a must at the front door!
I like how the gold legs compliment your awesome light fixture.
Love your style and blog :) can’t wait to see what you do.

  • I can’t believe nobody asked about the booties! I would like those to know who made those please.
    Gorgeous home.
I could move right in, thank you for blogging and keeping me from my work everyone once in a while.
    Best,
    E

  • Again, which rug is this from the rug warehouse?

    thanks!

    • Hi Julie, it is a one of a kind, vintage rug so you won’t find the same one. But it is a Khotan rug if you’d like to search the region it’s from. Good luck!

  • Hi Sarah,
I love everything about your place! We recently redid out kitchen (white Ikea) and used the same hardware you did. I love the octagonal mirror in your entryway. I am looking for something similar for my living room. Would you mind sharing the dimensions/diameter of your mirror? I was thinking 3 feet in diameter for our space, but I think yours looks bigger? Thank you, Jo

    • Hi Jo, thank you! Yes the mirror is 48″ across. There is a bracket that the mirror guys glued to the back of the mirror that then slides into another metal bracket that we screwed onto the wall for hanging.

  • …also, how did you hang that large mirror (what type of hardware)? Thanks!

  • HiSarah
That room is beautiful! I was wondering where the woven wall decor is from-I love it!
    Thanks so much
    Jill

    • Hi Jill! I made it. There’s a DIY post on it, you can find it by clicking the DIY button in the side bar and scrolling through! X
