Christmas in LA

living-room-holiday5 copyHere’s a peek into our house as decorated for Christmas. Better late than never right?, and who knows I may never take down that little white tree…

living-room-holiday-treeliving-room-holiday-tree2living-room-holiday2-640-2… and certainly not this DIY wall hanging. :)

DIY-eucalyptus-wall-hangingliving-room-holiday-shelvesI wanted the holiday decorations to blend with the decor but still add all that extra sparkle that makes the season special. Usually I like to err on EXTRA Christmas flair but being this pregnant I wasn’t sure how quickly the decorations will actually make it back into their boxes after the fact, so better to do it with a restrained hand. I did this by using a lot of metallic gold, a white tree, white lights, some natural greens, and then spread it throughout the house so most surfaces had a touch of seasonal love.

It is also the first time we have spent the holidays in the renovated space! To see how far we’ve come, check out the living room before we knocked through a couple walls in the before photos here, and all of the renovation progress so far, here.

from the weekend: 32 week bump

32 weeks // dressing the bump // smitten studioI hope you all had a great Christmas. Rupert and I spent ours hunkered down with just the 2 (.5) of us and the dogs. It was the first time we didn’t travel to see family and I definitely missed them and the snow, but it was also really special knowing that it will be the quietest Christmas we will most likely ever have and this time next year a mini Rupe will be scooting around the tree.

Los Angeles is also a lot quieter in general, between Christmas and New Years, and I’ve enjoyed taking many a trips to get the best decaf latte in all the land without a line! Above we were on such a coffee run in celebration of hitting 32 weeks!

holiday decorating

holiday shelves // smitten studioI’m falling a bit behind on my Christmas decorating, kicking and growing baby Samuel has other ideas of what I should be working on (like my sleep), but I’ve managed to gussy up our living room shelves in some holiday flare with a little help from Wayfair.

I picked out some pretty goodies like those gold Dwell Studio animals, the Jonathan Adler peacock, and the black geometric vases that all work year round, but with the addition of some ornaments, greenery, and other gilded treasures, help make my shelves Christmas ready. Now as far as my Christmas tree goes… it still needs some attention, but I’ll share more photos of our house decked out for the holidays once I dust off the rest of the ornaments and get more than one string of lights on our sad conifer. :) Have you guys gotten your stockings all up and mistletoe in place?

P.S. Wayfair is also holding an instagram contest where they want you to share a photo of your holiday shelves for a chance to win a $500 gift card! Just post a photo of your decorated shelves, tag @wayfair and hashtag it with #holidayshelfie to enter. The contest is open until Christmas! Check out some extra “shelfie” inspiration here.

from the weekend: baby showers, beautiful kitchens, and holiday fun

casa shelter half kitchen // smitten studiobaby-showerThis week started off with a bang so excuse my weekend post on a Tuesday night! I am still recovering from the festivities and I’m noticing you don’t bounce back as quick at 31 weeks pregnant. Sunday started and ended with a party and we had gatherings in between, keeping me up well past my recent granny bedtime of 8:30. The first was a friends baby shower (which took place at casa shelter half, and I couldn’t not snap a pic of the gorgeous kitchen (above) designed by Heather Heron).  After, Rupe picked me up for our first birthing class (holy moly what am I getting into), from there we met friends for a hot cocoa happy hour and walked to the Venice canals holiday boat parade (think homemade floats, lit up kayaks, and rowing carolers all dressed like Santa) and finally, we all ended up back at my house for pizza which somehow turned into a late night ear candle party. You know, your typical holiday activities. :)

Hope you are having a good week. x

my (bump) style: pencil skirt & cardigan

pencil-skirt2pencil-skirt5pencil-skirt4640pencil-skirt3pencil-skirtI’ve always been a fan of the pencil skirt and the silhouette has come even more of a staple in my wardrobe during my pregnancy. Here at 30 weeks I’m pairing it with these non-maternity tops, a cozy fair isle cardigan and a cropped blouse (you may remember it from our pregnancy announcement video looking just a little less filled out ;).

The key to styling clothes around the bump successfully, for me, is to keep at least either the top or the bottom closely fitted, otherwise you can end up just looking like a big blob (and for heaven’s sake I already feel so blobbish, it makes a girl feel better not to look it too). The pencil skirt does the trick here, while I was able to layer up and go more loose and flowy top.
