CurrentExhibitionJames Casabere
James Casebere’s (b. 1953, East Lansing, MI) pioneering work has established him at the forefront of artists working with constructed photography. For the last fifty years, Casebere has devised increasingly complex models, sometimes based on actual buildings, that are subsequently photographed in his studio. Recently, his practice has expanded beyond photography and tabletop model-making into large-scale sculpture, here rendered using the traditional Japanese method of Shou Sugi Ban. These current architectonic sculptures are abstract formal improvisations that break free of representing any specific existing structures. Casebere lives and works in New York.
