picnic brunch studio warming party

picnic brunch // studio warming partysarahshermansamuel-2sarahshermansamuel-3A couple weeks ago I invited a few of my favorite boss lady friends over to break in the new studio. I’ve been working so much lately and all the women that came are killing it too so I used the newly finished space as an excuse to lure them all over to take a much needed midweek break for brunch and bubbles.

Dasani Sparkling supplied all the sparkling water we could drink as we tested out the new flavors (raspberry lemonade was the clear favorite of the day) while munching chicken and waffle bites, yogurt parfaits, frittatas, and breakfast tartines.

Click through to see the delish spread, some gorgeous florals, tabletop inspiration, and a sneak peek into the finished space.

impromptu spring gathering

Advertisementspring entertaining // bar cart // sss studioWhen you move to one of the biggest cities in the country you don’t imagine being in a neighborhood where your friends can just walk over for a girls night in. Especially not in LA because “nobody walks in LA”. But it’s happening! One of my good friends and her family just moved into a house on our same street! And I have a few others just blocks away. So last night I hosted my first impromptu, super casual, walk on over, no make-up allowed, come as you are, ladies-night-in for a couple of my besties. After all, we had to break in the new pink sofa!! (That’s right it’s here!!!!).

wall hanging // studio artwriting desk // workspace // sarah sherman samuelplanter-640spring entertaining // bar cart // sss studioTo get the place easy entertaining ready, I took advantage of Target‘s new travel inspired spring collection because holy moly have you seen it?! Those planters and the ceramic pieces… Gah! So good.I repurposed this vase as a wine chiller, stocked the bar cart, turned on spotify and that’s it!

Lord knows I have itchy feet to explore a new city, see new landscapes, and collect souvenirs from different cultures. Morocco still remains at the top of my list (which is where Nate Berkus found a lot of inspiration for this latest collection) and Mexico was nice but that was already 5 months ago! So while we have slowed down on travel a bit since Archer, I am in nesting mode even in my studio space, filling it with pieces I love. Special pieces that remind me of trips we’ve taken, have me looking forward to the trips we will take, and give me the excuse to share it with friends that are close to home.

See more peeks into the studio as it is coming together here.

P.S. Spring entertaining doesn’t have to be anything fancy, here’s a few tips you can steal from my gal’s night in. 1. If you’re inside, bring the outdoors in, with plants, flowers, and/or cactus. 2. Deck out a bar cart for an easy self-serve station for your guests (not pictured was the cheese plate and fruit tart that we devoured in minutes). 3. Liven up the space with some new wall-art or just rotate in pieces you already have from other rooms in the house for a fresh vibe.

weekend scenes: double birthday

happy balloons // sarah sherman samuelWhat do you do when you, your son, and Johnny Cash all share a birthday? Duh… you throw a Johnny Cash themed party! And that is what we did for Archie’s first and my {cough cough} thirty fourth. If you follow along on Instagram you’ve already seen these few peeks from the day, but more to come soon! We had Birds of a Feather shoot the party, so you know they will have some good ones.

A Sunny Social at Urbanic

a sunny afternoon + urbanic stationery line // smitten studioA few weeks ago we launched an A Sunny Afternoon paper line in collaboration with everyone’s favorite LA stationery boutique, Urbanic. (a few selects shown above). We also teamed up to host an “End of Summer Social” that brought bloggers, design lovers, and party goers together in celebration of the partnership. Right now the stationery is only available in the store but I will give you the heads up when you can purchase them online!

Below are photos from the event shot by Joanne Pio and don’t miss the video, at the end, that captures all the fun of the night by California Electric.

backyard baby shower

backyard-babyshowerbackyard-babyshower2Remember that baby shower I gave you a glimpse of a few weeks back? Today I’m sharing the rest of the sweet soirée. My friend Lauren Bradshaw of Walnut Animal Society (the cutest stuffed animals you ever did see) is expecting her 2nd baby boy very soon, so I teamed up with Audrey Woollen and Melody Hansen to throw her a celebratory shower in my backyard.

backyard-babyshower3backyard-babyshower4backyard-babyshower5Melody made the strawberry shortcake for dessert after we all dined on delicious grilled chicken and carnitas tacos homemade by fellow friend Bea Schlatter.

backyard-babyshower6backyard-babyshower8My backyard was transformed when I brought out the dining table from our previous house (currently stored in the garage) and rented those gorgeous bentwood chairs from Yeah Rentals. I found those white vintage fiberglass chairs that sit at each end of the table at the Long Beach Flea Market which make great captain’s chairs.

backyard-babyshower7backyard baby shower // smitten studiobackyard baby shower // smitten studioI made a few changes in the lounge area, just for the party, by switching out my cushions for some rentals and adding the pattern backdrop. I also swapped out the fireplace for a wicker peacock chair to give Lauren a proper throne that the expectant momma clearly deserves. :) It was our first time getting to entertain in the new patio space and I couldn’t love it any more.
