A-Frame Full Tour + Announcement!

DESERT A-FRAME FOR SALELast year we finished the work on our desert A-frame and earlier this week I shared the last room makeover but today we have some exciting and somewhat bitter sweet news that I wanted to accompany with a full tour, so you can see everything in one post, and to bring this renovation chapter to a close. Because… we are putting it up FOR SALE! Or rather it is currently on the market as of this week!!

SSS room at the Christopher Kennedy Compound

bedroom-2-640cIt’s Modernism Week this week in Palm Springs and the entire city is a flutter with design events, architectural tours, lectures, and parties. I was so thrilled to be a part of it this year by designing one of the rooms for the Christopher Kennedy Compound Show House, which has been coined the “#1 must see Event of Modernism Week” by the Hollywood Reporter. I introduced you to the project a few weeks ago (here) but if you missed it, each year Christopher re-images a Palm Springs property by bringing together about 20 of the country’s prominent design talents and assigning each one with their own room. This year the house was the HUGE (I’m talking 6,500 square foot) home of Kelly Lee a.k.a. Kelly Go Lightly and I got to design the East Guest Bedroom.

It was a slightly harrowing feat, installing our room and coordinating deliveries etc among 19 other designers doing the same but it all came together just in the nick of time. If you followed my instastory, you know I was re-upholstering a bench 2 hours before the cocktail party preview and the giant mirror was delivered during the preview party. Rupe and I, + a CK handyman, installed it mid-event while dressed in our cocktail attire. NBD.

But now I am thrilled to show you the space!

Travel Stories: The Amado

the amado palm springs // sarah sherman samuelWhile our A-frame still has no bathroom, about a half of a kitchen, and is covered in saw dust, we are getting extra familiar with all the hotels and lodging options in Palm Springs. One of my favorite Airbnb’s in the area is The Amado where we stayed this week while checking in on the construction of our place.

desert-night-amado-sssthe-amado-sssThe boutique hotel was once an apartment building that photographer and founder Jaime Kowal renovated and restored to become the polished mid-century gem it is today. There are 5 units total, we stayed in unit number 5 which is the only two bedroom and comes with it’s own semi-private patio as well. We had my parents in town so the two bedroom was perfect. You can also rent out the entire place for events (sign me up!). Lucky for us, since it was mid-week we had it all to ourselves anyway!

The decor is minimal in all the right ways with some pretty great art on the walls. I’ve rounded up a few of the pieces so you can steal the look and bring The Amado vibe into your home.

pool-time-avalonExcuse the absence this week. I am still playing catch up from the holiday weekend… Send help!

pool-time-avalon-2avalon-hotelWe spent a couple days in Palm Springs, checking in on the A-frame (update coming soon!) and beating the 100 degree + heat with some pool time at the Avalon Hotel. After a rough couple weeks of at least one of us in the house being sick it was exactly what we needed.

And how cute is that “yeah” shirt. My new fave. Oh, hey… I’m curious if you guys want to see some posts on how I dress Archie? Or if you couldn’t care less. Let me know!

weekend scenes: palm springs

poolside My parents have been visiting for the past two weeks and we just spent the last one in Palm Springs. We worked on the A-frame, played tourist, had a little pool time, and celebrated Rupe’s birthday. I also started a new instagram account specifically for the A-frame which you can follow @thesamuelaframe

palm springs tramwaypalm-springs-house-stalkingFor Rupe’s birthday we took the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway for the first time and it was INSANE. But also really beautiful. That teeny tiny tramcar in the photo above holds around 60 people and it rotates while going up the mountain (!!!!!). We survived though and after demoing the A-frame kitchen all day the day before it was nice to get outside and take in some nature. It has been a while.

And no trip to Palm Springs is complete without a little house stalking. Gosh I love the architecture there.

sss-a-frameThis is the view by the A-frame! Such a drastically different landscape than our last Lake Michigan cabin but beautiful in its own right. There were wildflowers in bloom all over and tons of hiking trails which I can not wait to explore.

cactus // sarah sherman samuelpalm springs desert modern-houseAnd remember my Palm Springs client I shared about… “desert modern“. Well, here is a little sneak peek. The house is a vacation home and rental house so it worked out pretty perfect for us to able to stay there while the A-frame is in shambles. We worked on the A-frame by day and I worked on installing some final design touches here by night. I’m looking forward to sharing the rest of the space when all the final pieces come together!

Happy hump day x

weekend scenes: palm springs drive-bys

palm springs architectureWhile project a-frame has gotten off to a slow start (so far the carpet has been pulled out and that’s about it), we have been making more frequent trips to Palm Springs to get the show on the road! Luckily it’s one pretty road, and we often spend Archer’s nap-time driving round and around it, ogling all of the houses. Rupert drives, and we poke and point at different mid-century gems, I take photos out the window, and Archer snores. It’s a pretty great way to kill an hour and a half when you don’t have a bed to nap in. ;)

Here’s a couple more from our last trip… here and here. I can’t get enough!
