get the look: the butcher’s daughter

sss_butchersdaughter_02If you follow me on Instagram, it is no secret that The Butcher’s Daughter is one of my favorite local restaurants. The decor is so in line with my own aesthetic, whenever I go there I feel right at home. There are special details all around like the shibori booth and gold/quartz table, a macrame ceiling installation, hanging plants all around and a stunning back patio. It strikes a perfect mix of styles that I would dub as modern boho farmhouse.  READ MORE

date night downtown

fur and lace // sarah sherman samuelOne of our resolutions this year is to have more date-nights. We have been epically failing (only going on about 4 total in the almost 2 years of Archer’s life) and it has taken its toll from time to time. Before Archie we were positive we would be one of the couples to take regular nights out together and make our relationship a priority but unfortunately it hasn’t been the case.

Neither of us are planners, we like to be spontaneous and nights out, pre-baby, were a big part of our week. However, with a child at home it isn’t as easy as saying, hey let’s go out to eat tonight and catch a movie. You have to find a sitter and those sitters like to have more than an hours notice. Go figure. With that said, this year our plan is to have a standing date night where we have scheduled a sitter to come one evening, every other week, so we have the plan in place and then we can be somewhat spontaneous with the what and the where.

It was nice to mix up the routine, get out of the house together, and take in some of the beautiful things Los Angeles has to offer. Redbird has to be one of my favorite interiors (take a peek here). Wish us luck to keep this on the regular!

The sheer lace top from Zara couldn’t be better for a date night. A faux fur coat and black distressed denim with a simple black pump make sure the top is the star of the outfit and I layered on all my favorite rings to make myself feel a little fancy.

weekend stories // VC Polo Classic

flower wall // stop and smell the roses // sarah sherman samuelHappy Monday! This weekend I literally stopped to smell the roses. SO MANY ROSES. It was one of my favorite events of the year, the Veuve Cliquot Polo Classic, where our usual sunday hiking spot (Will Rogers State Park) is transformed into the dreamiest event, dripping with flowers, champagne, and the best people watching you could ever take in. The fashion alone creates quite a show but there is a Polo match somewhere in there as well. For a bigger peek into the event you can scour the hash tag… #vcpoloclassic.

LA Trend Crawl

avalon hotel // Viviane // sarah sherman samuelA couple weeks back I partnered with Dove in a “trend crawl” which took me around to a few of my favorite LA spots with a handful of fashion and beauty experts. Our first stop was at the Avalon Hotel where we had lunch at the restaurant Viviane and chatted about spring trends.

avalon hotel // Viviane // sarah sherman samuelAs with most all of Kelly Wearstler designed interiors, I was going major heart eyes over all the details.

dove-trend-crawl-enamel-dictionOur second stop was at Enamel Diction where we received a Dove Dry Spray fragrance prescribed to us by an astrologist to align with our personal senses, along with a color horoscope with hand picked mani colors to complement it. She said red is a great color for me, who knew?! I’ve been missing out this whole time. ha!

dove-trend-crawl-enamel-diction2She also prescribed staying fresh with the “Revive” Dove Dry Spray scent which is described as vibrant, vivacious, cheerful and spirited, plus it promises to keep you fresh for days, so I am 100% ok with that. :)

dove-trend-crawl-satine2Our final stop was at one of my all time fave boutiques, Satine where we sipped champagne, shopped, and learned about the magic of Dove Dry Spray. The trick is that it goes on instantly dry and leaves no visible residue while also caring for your skin, so it’s perfect for sleeveless styles and multiple trips to the dressing room.

Satine After we were all shopped out I headed home to revel in the goodies from the day.

weekend scenes: LA Lately

marina del rey // sarah sherman samuelThanks for all of the love on the new site! Things should be running a lot more smoothly now. We ended up having to move the site to another host all together because my old one (rhymes with slowdaddy) just could not handle all of the fabulousness ;). Anywhoo, there are a few things I need to finish up but I am just happy it is up and running and I am back at it again.

This weekend I caught up on sleep and it was MARVELOUS. I forgot what a good solid eight hours does for a person. I even worked in a good nap on top of it. Archer is getting more and more interactive and dare I say… we are falling into a pretty good rhythm. Of course I am quickly learning as soon as you say that everything changes and you are right back to feeling clueless again but I will enjoy this period of bliss even if it only lasts a hot second. We took him out for lunch and splashed around a bit at the beach in Marina Del Rey. It is just a few minutes from our house but it transported us to that good vacation feel.

Hope you guys had a good one too.

LA weekend with Bugaboo

gjusta // los angeles // sarah sherman samuelThis weekend my eldest sister was visiting from Florida, so we played tourist in our own town and Bugaboo invited me to share my top spots in a mini family friendly city guide, so here we go…

To Eat: my favorite pick has been Gjusta, it’s a bakery/deli/cafe by the same folks as Gjelina, so the food is incredible. You order at the counter and find a bench or milk crate outside to sit on, which isn’t the comfiest of seating arrangements, but it is that casual picnic atmosphere that makes it great to bring the whole fam.

gjusta // los angeles // sarah sherman samuelArcher has been bopping around in the Bugaboo Bee, which we love for the compact design and the bassinet option. The bassinet is so perfect for a newborn to be able to nap in comfortably, while we scoot around town.
