home progress: kitchen update

kitchen renovation // smitten studiokitchen renovation // smitten studioIt has been a while since I’ve done an update on the kitchen, and things are so so close to being done! Last check in, we had just finished off extending the countertop, backsplash, and floors into the expanded kitchen space that was created when we removed the wall that led to the old laundry room/pantry. We also installed all the additional door and drawer fronts. Now from the front door instead of seeing the washer and dryer, it’s all kitchen!

We then had SemiHandmade make us a custom sized drawer front for beneath it (about 2″ taller than the standard ikea drawer) to finish it off.

Now the only thing left to do in here is to finish trimming out the top of the cabinets. Phew! Dinner party anyone? ;)

home progress: unfinished projects all around

back patio progress, built-in seating // smitten studioThe major renovations are basically over (thank the Lord, Hallelujah, Amen!), the laundry room and bedroom that we added on are fully functioning and the construction crew has been replaced with Rupert and I. It is nice having the house back to ourselves, but we still have a ton of little things (and some big things) to do. We currently have about 10 DIY tasks in the making, each at various stages of completion all over the house. Here is to hoping we can knock a few of these projects off our list this weekend….

renovation update: finished floors & bathroom progress

kitchen-progressWe are getting closer to the end of our renovation and I CAN NOT wait to start moving our things back in, hang some art, and just enjoy some time at home. I can’t believe how much counter space we have now that that wall is history. The new pieces of marble for the extension of the countertop and backsplash are in place, and all that is left to do hang the upper cabinets, put the doors on the new base cabinets, and paint the toe-kicks.

house update: talking wood floors, paint colors, & chaos

house update, stuccoOk guys, sorry for the lack of house updates. There hasn’t been anything too exciting going on and everything is still so not pretty, it isn’t very inspiring to take photos of, or look at, really. Thankfully the end is getting near(ish) and most of the major stuff is done! I can’t wait for the day that we can clean everything out of there and start over with a brand new blank slate. A status update on all the rooms and, as promised, a bit of the reality of living through a renovation, after the jump…

smitten studio top 10 posts in 2013

2013 has been a wild ride! Here’s a round-up of Smitten Studio’s top 10 posts this year.

A Sunny Afternoon // Napkins & Serving Boards1. The launch of my line A Sunny Afternoon definitely takes the cake as one of the top moments of the year. See the original post here.

open shelving // cabin kitchen // smitten studio2. We finished work on the cabin (well, for now at least) that we slowly renovated ourselves, where the kitchen went from this, to this.

New Zealand Road Trip // Smitten Studio3. Rupert and I spent my birthday in New Zealand where we road tripped around the north island in a vintage Kombi. It was the trip of a lifetime (see part 1 & par 2).

DIY Garment Rack // Smitten Studio4. One of the top DIY projects from this year was this garment rack. (see all the DIY’s posts here)

stop-smell-the-roses-print15. My “Stop and Smell the Roses” print was featured in Glamour Magazine. I also spotted it in the home of Anika & Ken Yael Natori in Lonny Magazine, and in Julia Engel’s abode.

ikea tarva dresser DIY // smitten studio6. The other top Smitten Studio DIY of the year was this simple Ikea hack.

Style at Home // Sarah Sherman Samuel // Smitten Studio7. A big change in 2013 was with the selling of our home and the buying and moving into a fixer upper. Glitter Guide sent over a photographer for a Style at Home feature just weeks before we moved out. It was the perfect way to say goodbye to the first place Rupert and I owned together.

living room styling // smitten studio8. In the new house we started renovating by refinishing the floors, knocking down a few walls, and painting so that right now at least the living room is livable.

A Sunny Afternoon // Napkins & Serving Boards9. We sold out of the first collection of A Sunny Afternoon products much quicker then anticipated so I added new designs, stocked up on some of the favorites, and launched the winter collection with a pancake brunch with friends.

kitchen cabinets // smitten studio10. And finally, we started on the kitchen in the new house by completely gutting it and putting in new cabinets and countertops.

Happy Friday, and here’s to a happy 2014 to you all!
