Our Family Room Media Cabinet DIY

If I had a nickel for every time someone asked for the DIY instructions on this media cabinet… I would have a lot of nickels. SO here we are in my family room and I am sharing how this came together. The TV cabinet is made up of Ikea media units, my Sarah Sherman Samuel Beaded doors for Semihandmade and some DIY legs for yet another IKEA hack. This one might be my all time favorite though.

home progress: kitchen update

kitchen renovation // smitten studiokitchen renovation // smitten studioIt has been a while since I’ve done an update on the kitchen, and things are so so close to being done! Last check in, we had just finished off extending the countertop, backsplash, and floors into the expanded kitchen space that was created when we removed the wall that led to the old laundry room/pantry. We also installed all the additional door and drawer fronts. Now from the front door instead of seeing the washer and dryer, it’s all kitchen!

We then had SemiHandmade make us a custom sized drawer front for beneath it (about 2″ taller than the standard ikea drawer) to finish it off.

Now the only thing left to do in here is to finish trimming out the top of the cabinets. Phew! Dinner party anyone? ;)

home progress: kitchen cabinets

Picking up where I left off with the kitchen, we had just installed the countertops & backsplash and were eagerly awaiting our SemiHandmade doors & drawer fronts. Well, I was beyond ecstatic that they arrived just in time for Thanksgiving and I am freaking out over how good they turned out.

cabinet doors by SemiHandmade // smitten studioLike I mentioned before, SemiHandmade is a company that makes high quality custom doors and drawer fronts to fit Ikea cabinetry. This allows you to get the look of a custom kitchen for less. The style that we chose is called the DIY Shaker, which is one of the options they offer that comes unstained/unpainted. The picky color fiend in me was thrilled because it meant I got to choose the exact hue I wanted.

home progress: kitchen demo & re-build

We’ve been getting a lot of help with this renovation by hiring subcontractors, but since my parents came to help out recently, Rupe and I took a couple days off of work and we all went full speed ahead on the kitchen.

kitchen-demo-sinkLiterally everything AND the kitchen sink went out the door and we started the process of re-building the new. See the demolition progression after the jump…

cabin progress: patio furniture

cabin-ikea-assemblyRemember from the planning post that I was looking for a couple chaise lounges? I ended up going with the Appalaro Chaise from Ikea. After a fun assembly session with Rupe (these were actually the easiest thing I have ever put together from Ikea), we were all set to do our best lounging.

chaise-cabin-smittenstudioMore to come on the patio as we are busy, painting, hammering, organizing, and finishing up projects this week.

from the weekend: chicago & the cabin

cabin weekendWe spent half of the weekend in Chicago visiting Rupe’s brother’s family. We had a blast catching up, sharing stories, and doting on their three little boys.  The other half was spent at the cabin, taking long walks on the beach to zen out before assembling Ikea furniture.  Those flat packed boxes get me every time.

Hope you had a lovely Memorial Day weekend.
