from the weekend: Gjelina & The Corner Door

6.11-weekend Gjelina Corner Door

This weekend I had my friend Anne in town from San Francisco and we did a mini food tour of a few of my favorite spots around the west side of LA. We made our first stop Friday at the new bar in town, The Corner Door (top right photo), then Saturday we had breakfast at Gjelina (top left photo), then lunch at the Kogi truck on Abbot Kinney, and dinner at Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing. Finally, Sunday we had breakfast at a friends restaurant Oscar’s Cervateca on Rose and then Lunch at Wurstküche. We ended it with another trip to Gjelina for dessert. Pheww… my mouth is watering just thinking about all of the amazing food.

In the kitchen with Bea

Over the weekend I had the pleasure of having a dinner created by my great friend Bea. I am always amazed, and really jealous, of her gourmet cooking skills but am always more then happy to be on the receiving end of the deal. This weekend was no exception. God knows I will never be sharing any of my own recipes (there is no such thing), so after receiving a few recipe requests because of my photo on instagram, I invited her to share it here.

And Voilà!…Flourless Dark Chocolate Lava Cake with Molten Maple Almond Butter. I am seriously still drooling.

We topped it off with a little vanilla gelato which went so well with the rich dark chocolate and complemented the saltiness of the almond butter. PERFECTION!

Abbot Kinney Love

So fun to hear that our neighborhood is home to “the Coolest Block in America“! As recently named by GQ magazine. Here are a few shots I took with instagram of some recent afternoons spent along that cool block called Abbot Kinney. Shown is the Mascarpone Panna Cotta from Gjelina and Rupert about to enjoy some sliders from the Kogi truck.
