Mother’s Day Traditions

breakfast in bed // mother's day traditions // sarah sherman samuelGrowing up, my favorite Mother’s Day tradition was racing to make breakfast before my mom would wake-up so that it would be a true breakfast in bed. She is an early riser, and I have never been, so more often than not she would have to pretend to be just waking up by the time I got breakfast up to her, but it was always our special way of starting off the day. I can hardly remember what we made, it was usually whatever we had on hand, but another tradition we kept up was serving breakfast with a side of flowers.

Last year, Rupert adopted the tradition and made me my favorite breakfast… blueberry pancakes, accompanied by my favorite flowers… Peonies! He is a keeper, that one. And while he has so many skills, flower arranging is not one of them. Luckily there is Teleflora. Their flowers are hand-delivered and already professionally arranged by a local florist so there is no struggle to find the perfect vase, no cutting the stems, or fussing over the pretty blooms. They arrive ready to enjoy.

Like this “Butterfly Sunrise” bouquet.

I will be enjoying the butterfly mug it came in for my giant cup of morning tea.

What are your Mother’s Day traditions? Do you guys have any special ways of showing your mom she’s your #1 or maybe you have some new hints I need to drop on Rupert? ;)

from the weekend: backyard babyshower

baby-shower-weekendThis weekend I had the first of hopefully many a party in our backyard. Here is just a peek at the sweet baby shower for a dear friend. I can’t tell you how nice it was to finally be able have friends over and enjoy the space. We had brand new sod laid two weeks ago so it also happened to be the very first day we could walk on the grass! #cuttingitclose ;)

I’ll be sharing photos showing the whole party soon! Hope you had a lovely weekend. x

from the weekend: a besties wedding

04.21.13weekendThis weekend one of my nearest and dearest got married. It’s the best thing being able to contribute to a friends wedding day… it just seems all the more special when you are designing for someone you love. You know how they say food tastes better when it is made with love? Well, in the same vein, I think my table runners, paper goods, and even the smilebooth props looked extra good that night. :). Congrats to Bea & John.

from the weekend: santa monica wedding

9.10-weekendThis weekend we had our first local wedding of the bunch that took place at the Annenberg Beach House in Santa Monica. It is always fun seeing a couples style through their wedding and this one was beautifully modern, festive, fun and very relaxed.
