dress the bump

maternity style: off the shoulder

dress the bump // maternity style // off the shoulder I’m about 32 weeks pregnant today and am still finding lots of non maternity options that work so well with or without a bump, like this off the shoulder dress from Urban. Even though it still feels like summer here, the color palette of the dress is getting me in the mood for fall, and pair it with a sweater and maybe some ankle boots and it can carry you well into the autumn season.

my (bump) style: pencil skirt & cardigan

pencil-skirt2pencil-skirt5pencil-skirt4640pencil-skirt3pencil-skirtI’ve always been a fan of the pencil skirt and the silhouette has come even more of a staple in my wardrobe during my pregnancy. Here at 30 weeks I’m pairing it with these non-maternity tops, a cozy fair isle cardigan and a cropped blouse (you may remember it from our pregnancy announcement video looking just a little less filled out ;).

The key to styling clothes around the bump successfully, for me, is to keep at least either the top or the bottom closely fitted, otherwise you can end up just looking like a big blob (and for heaven’s sake I already feel so blobbish, it makes a girl feel better not to look it too). The pencil skirt does the trick here, while I was able to layer up and go more loose and flowy top.

my (bump) style: winter whites at 29 weeks

winter whites // bump style // smitten studioI wore this dress for Thanksgiving dinner, a daring move since food tends to miss my mouth lately and land smack dab on the belly, but it made it through the entire day unscathed. It also made for a very comfortable stint on the sofa while recovering from the turkey coma, turns out sweater dresses are all good by me.

my (bump) style: stripes & plaid 2 ways

mixing stripes and plaid 2 ways // bump style // sarah sherman samuel27 weeks and counting with this bun in the oven! I can not believe the third trimester is here. Switching gears from my pattern mixing on the table to pattern mixing in my wardrobe, I’m sharing how to combine plaid and stripes two ways and both looks work with or without a baby bump. :)

The pattern is bold enough that even in a small accessory it makes a big statement. In order to keep the rest of the outfit from fading into the background I chose a graphic stripe to compliment the large plaid.

To make the plaid and stripes mixing extra easy on this one, I’ve kept with the common palette of black and white. A combo I can’t seem to get enough of lately.

my (bump) style: fall trench & ripped jeans

fall trench love // my bump style // 25 weeks // smitten studioWe just had a few lovely days that started to feel like fall here in LA and I took the opportunity to break out one of my favorite autumnal staples, the long trench coat. I love the versatility of a trench and how it can turn these ripped jeans and tank into a polished look. The length also helps make even this 25 week pregnant lady feel longer and leaner.
