from the weekend: the good, the bad, and the really ugly

03.23.14-weekendThe good: Saturday we drove downtown to check out the Parachute Market, a beautifully curated design fair and then stopped by the equally beautiful Ace on the way back for a little snack.

The bad: On the drive home I started not feeling so well.

The really ugly: We arrived home to a freshly varnished hallway which I immediately had to put my personal stamp (ie footprints) in, while running to the bathroom where I became violently ill and stayed for the remainder of the night. (tmi? probably).

I should also note that it was NOT the Ace’s food that poisoned my system. I am pretty sure a late night taco truck run the evening before was the culprit. Ew. I hope your weekend was better then mine!

from the weekend: los angeles in two days

griffith observatory, los angeles // @sarahshermansamuelI got to play tourist in my own city this weekend with one of my best gal pals who was visiting from San Francisco. We caught up while buzzing around town to a lot of my favorite spots. Here’s the short list for our whirlwind weekend in LA.

We had an unforgettable dinner at Alma, a peek at the new Ace Hotel downtown, a manicure at the most beautiful nail salon in Beverly Hills, brunch at Gjelina & Salt Air, shopping on Abbot Kinney as well as in Silver Lake, another tasty meal at Sqirl, hiking and taking in the view at Griffith Observatory, tacos and drinks at Alibi room, and a long, and by then, delirious meal at Cafe Gratitude.

smitten travels: the ace, palm springs

palm springsthe ace palm springsthe ace, palm springsthe ace palm springsthe ace, palm springsthe ace, palm springsWhen I think of what Palm Springs looks like, I think of the Ace Hotel. Add the decor with the super cozy beds (they have latex mattresses, I checked what kind because I liked the beds THAT much), the chilaquiles for breakfast and the fish tacos for lunch and I could move right in…permanently.

Even though I have stayed at the Ace in Palm Springs a multitude of times, every time I visit I still find little corners that I hadn’t discovered before. I love going during the week when the it’s quiet and the weekend madness hasn’t yet arrived.

I was there last week for an event called Designer Vaca where 50 some female designers gathered together for a little fun in the sun and a bit of work chat too. I spoke on a panel where I talked about my career path and the whys and hows of when I decided to quit my full-time job to launch my own business. I left the retreat feeling a sense of community that you don’t always get when you work solo a lot of the time. I mean how often do you get to be in a room with 50 people that have the same passion? (magic) It had me craving more creative collaborations and laughing until my cheeks hurt.

from the weekend: palm springs & found type

6.15-weekend the ace palm springs

I’m back at work today after swapping the marine layer on the west side of LA for 100 degree sunshine in Palm Springs. I battled a floppy sun hat at the Ace and found some pretty type on the sidewalk.
