beach-baby-sarahshermansamuelsanta-monica-beach2This weekend was full of big milestones for me on the motherhood journey. My sister came to visit with her husband and two young kids from Wyoming and they were not about to stick around the house all day, so I quickly had to learn how to breastfeed on the fly and in public (gasp! ;)), something I wasn’t really looking forward to. It already sounds silly now, but I couldn’t imagine how I would ever be able to do it without my perfect little nursing station, my pillows set up just right etc, but there I was on the beach, nursing like a champ. ha!

And just like that, it opened up a whole new chapter. We were able to spend the day at the beach, get a delicious lunch at Playa Provisions, and spend a full day away from the house. The rest of the weekend was filled with more beach time, playing games on the santa monica pier, backyard picnics, dining out, and Archer’s first party! It was some good quality time with my sister and little A’s adorable cousins. More photos from the weekend after the jump…

  • Good for you Sarah! I went on my first vacation as a breast-feeding mother when my little guy was 4 months (he’s now 18 months). And I was NOT one of those gung ho breast-feeding mothers…I was just trying to stick it out for as long as I could survive it. And honestly, it wasn’t nearly as bad as I expected. While I very much admire those women willing to pull it out at a moments notice, I just wasn’t one of them, but there are so many breast-feeding cover-ups and carriers and tops these days that nursing with a little privacy in public is very doable. As you mentioned, a whole new world/chapter is now open to you! Go forth and explore – your little one will love it 🙂 ps…I completely agree – your photos are beautiful. I’m sure most of it has to do with your amazing photography skills, but would you mind if I asked what filter(s) you use, if any?
