oh joy office design by sarah sherman samuel Just before the holidays (and exactly 1 week before baby Clover arrived) I did the final install and shoot of Joy Cho’s, of Oh Joy, “executive office” and I’m excited to share it with you today! I really enjoy designing workspaces, and I don’t think it is possible to find a more fun office to get to work with than Joy’s colorful and pattern rich brand!

Before the break we revealed the Oh Joy kitchen and I shared a little bit of my design process with the rendered options. This time I am pulling it one step back and sharing the very first step in my process which is the inspiration/mood board I presented to Joy when we had our first meeting about her executive office.

Typically I give clients a detailed questionnaire to nail down their style but with Joy’s being so iconic we got to get right to work. We knew we were going to use her tile  so that was a big jumping off point. From there I rounded up these inspiration photos to help build a color palette and give us a chance to talk over ideas and the overall look and feel of the space. The mood board conveys the color pops, pattern mixing, and overarching whimsical style we wanted to bring into the room.

And that we did, with art, wallpaper, disco balls, tassels and touches of gold…

I had so much fun curating a little gallery wall behind Joy’s desk filled with art from friends.
