Mandy Moore's production company office at Paramount Studios // sarah sherman samuel

Mandy Moore just started her own production company and the office space she leased at Paramount Studios was a little sad (if you missed my first post, jump here to see what we started with), so I was thrilled when she enlisted me to help her “give it a vibe”. A vibe we gave her, and while it’s a bit more bold than what we did in her house, it still shares a similar palette of blush, ochre, blues, a lot of white and warm wood tones, and you’ll see a similar thread of vintage, mixed with custom pieces, mixed with traditional retail goods. It leans more post-modern, than her mid-mod home and even has a bit of pop culture mixed in. It was a great opportunity to have a bit more fun in her workspace as we would hope it would energize and inspire her during the day and then she can wind down in her serene oasis of a home at night. SO without further ado… here she is!

In the front office, Mandy wanted this to act partially as a reception area, but also as her spot to hang/work. “This is Us” films at Paramount, so she can drop in and spend time here during any downtime during filming. They also wanted to make a space for an intern, but didn’t want it to feel like a formal office, so in lieu of desks in this space, I used bistro tables to make it feel more like a casual cafe/workspace. I was going to build a custom banquette, but then I found this sofa on Amazon, which was the perfect color and had the clean lines I was looking for. To get it up to dining chair/desk chair height we simply removed the legs and built a wood base making it comfortable to sit and work at the table from.

To add some more architectural interest in the basic “white box” rooms, without breaking the bank or getting in trouble with Paramount, we made the arch out of MDF and wallpapered it with this stunning print. We then added plug-in sconces for extra task lighting and visual interest.

On the other side of the room, I found some gorgeous vintage chairs that we reupholstered in S. Harris Velvet from Fabricut, the color is “Brandy” and it is such a beautiful shade of camel. We couldn’t be happier with the chairs.

Above the chairs we framed three “I love Lucy” postage stamps to pay homage to the original tenant. Mandy’s office is in the “Lucy Bungalows” which back in the day was Lucille Ball’s dressing room. The history at Paramount is pretty special, so I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to incorporate it in some way.

Just as you walk into the office (to the left under the window), there was previously a filing cabinet that had a tray of snacks and a water cooler. I wanted to turn that lack luster drop zone into something more inviting, so we made it into a simple kitchenette (minus a sink). We used Ikea kitchen cabinets and then, to elevate the drink situation past a water cooler, we used one of Zephyr’s new Presrv Beverage Cooler, which sits beautifully in the cabinets, looking built right in, and it even has all the fancy temperature controls to keep storage of wine and other favorite drinks at the right temp.

The next office is for the Mandy’s executive, Regina, and where they have meetings. Regina is here most days, so she needed a more formal desk set up. We had a custom one made by Hedge House furniture. I was inspired by a table they already carry and had them convert it into a desk (much like I had them convert the same design into a console table for Garance). Their work is so beautiful and they happen to use my hardware on those pieces, so naturally it is a good fit. 🙂

Like I mentioned in the last post, her office is a rental, so we weren’t able to do any renovating. Meaning, the dark brown carpet had to stay, so the area rugs were V important. And if you saw my stories, during install… Mandy was the first recipient of one of my rugs from my collection that just launched with Lulu and Georgia! The stripe break rug (p.s. we are having a hard time keeping these in stock (yay!) but more are on the way. :).

Mixing different styles, vintage and new, and traditional retailers with individual artisans help create a unique space without blowing the budget. The interesting shapes and silhouettes of the pieces I found on Amazon (like the sconces, the white side table, the gorgeous blush dome table lamps, and the pink vase) mix well with the vintage chair and coffee table that keep up with more geometric pieces. The Faye TooGood roly poly chair and the shearling sofa with it’s beautiful shape and texture also bring the heat, (both are on my own personal want list). However, the wallpaper throughout (including on the ceiling) might just be a favorite way to add in some drama.
