top 15 of 2015

06sarahshermansamuel-maxandfriendsI’m signing off for the rest of the year, but for your holiday break reading pleasure, I have rounded up my top 15 posts/moments from 2015.

To start it off, a post I will always look back on and treasure… MY MATERNITY PHOTOS. I can’t believe it has almost been a full year since archer was all cozy in the womb.

nursery-ikea-hackAs we readied the nursery for A’s arrival we did THIS IKEA HACK for his dresser/changing table.

bathroom renovationWhen I was 8 months pregnant, I decided we needed a new bathroom and we needed it NOW. Here’s the ALMOST FINISHED TOUR.

baby-sleepARCHER’S ARRIVAL was as you’d think, the cutest and sweetest main event of 2015. I also started a new series, along with a handful of other bloggers, called “REAL TALK WITH REAL MOMS” where we share personal stories around a central topic once a month.

gender-neutral-nursery-baby-boy-sarahshermansamueland speaking of Archer… his NURSERY TOUR was another favorite.

kitchen by sarah sherman samuelWe put all the finishing touches on the kitchen and shared the BEFORE AND AFTER TOUR.

studio-update-sarahshermansamuel6sm640Our what is now the old studio space got an UPDATE.

swing-top-lasercut-midiAnd it definitely took a while, but I started feeling and DRESSING LIKE MYSELF again somewhere in there. Here’s one more STYLE FAVE.

sea-change-sssWe launched the NEW WEBSITENEW SHOP & PRODUCTS… new errthing.

rustic modern living room makeoverThis RUSTIC MODERN MAKEOVER was one of my favorite interior spaces I worked on this year.

iphone-photoediting-tutorialI shared all my INSTAGRAM PHOTO SECRETS.

sarahshermansamuel-cake-standsWe launched a series of ARTIST COLLABORATIONS, where I team up with different maker’s and create new pieces exclusive to the SSS SHOP.

laundry-roomWe started our quest to make the PRETTIEST LAUNDRY ROOM ever.

sarahshermansamuel-studio21Another big moment of 2015 was our moving into a NEW STUDIO! It is still pretty blank as December is always the craziest time of year but I’m looking forward to making this our new work home in 2016.

a-frame-sarahshermansamuelAnd finally, another really exciting project for 2016 and a very pinch myself moment, was the purchasing of this fixer of an A-FRAME! See the FULL TOUR HERE.

In other crazy news… I am on the cover of Sunset Magazine this month! I also did an instagram takeover for them and contributed to their site with a mini guide to Palm Springs.

It has been a year full of SO much change, new baby, new website, new cabin, new studio… and all the highs and lows that go with change. I am looking forward to seeing what 2016 will bring and hopefully hunkering down a bit and settling into all the new. I hope you have fun reflecting and have a wonderful Christmas and New Year. Thank you for following along and I’ll see you next week! xo

a-frame inspo

a-frame inspirationWhile the interior of our A-frame currently looks completely sad and drab, and a bit scary… I have started the wheels turning on how we will hopefully make it to something that feels comfortable, modern, and unique. While I get to the drawing board, I have rounded up a few inspirational interiors that I think have elements which are just that, and in all different ways. OH the possibilities.

And even though we won’t be changing much on the exterior… I had to share these AMAZING a-frames, because duh… they are amazing and what can I say, I have A-frame fever.

DIY gift wrap

holiday gift wrap diygift-wrap-diy3I received a few requests to further explain my DIY wrapping paper from my gift exchange party so here she is…

I love homemade wrapping paper for quite a few reasons. It makes a gift a little extra special, it only takes a few minutes, it can actually save time if you are like me and make it out of what is already on hand at your house, and it can end up being a lot more inexpensive. Oh and instead of trying to find the perfect wrap to suit your style you just make it!

gift-wrap-diySupplies needed: I used a mix of kraft, black and white paper as the base. You can get large rolls from an art or craft store // Scissors // Gold Tape // Black and white Twine // White Paint Marker // Greenery (i used some snips of evergreen and eucalyptus)

cozy-gift-party14For the gold striped boxes all I did was wrap the metallic gold tape around every inch and half or so connecting the tape end to end. For the twine wrapped presents I just wrapped them round and round a bunch of times making a criss cross pattern and topped them with a bit of evergreen.

gift-wrap-diy2I wanted to keep all the wrap cohesive so it all looks great together under the tree of course, so creating just a couple different patterns and mixing up the background color with the black, craft, and white paper was the way to go. For the last (and my favorite) pattern I drew little modern trees (aka triangles) on the craft and black paper with the white paint marker, tied them up with the twine, and topped it off with a little eucalyptus for that touch of green.

I can’t wait to start ripping these open, I mean, give these away, Christmas morning.

winter skincare & bath salt diy

bath-salt-gift4-640bedtime-routine3-640I am not one to use a lot of lotions and potions or beauty products. I have my 5 minute make-up routine, wash my hair about once a week (I still shower everyday, FYI, don’t get crazy), I can’t even remember the last time I got my hair cut (over a year and a half), and I can count on my hands and toes how many times I’ve gotten a manicure. What I am saying is… I am pretty low maintenance but the one thing I do really enjoy, especially in these winter months, is a good bath and a little extra skincare.

Even in LA the cooler temps have finally hit and it’s time to pamper ourselves, am I right? I’ve partnered with AVEENO® to share my healthy winter skin tips and a DIY bath salt mix that is also perfect for gifting!

bath salts - diy // sarah sherman samuelbath salts - diy // sarah sherman samuel Tip #1 Give and take a soak. Salt and mineral baths are at the tippy top of my list on how to take care of your skin while also feeling pampered and chasing away the winter chill. Himalayan Pink salt is really great for a salt bath because it contains many of the same minerals our bodies need to stay healthy and your skin soaks it up while you relax, infusing your skin with the minerals and hydration.

I picked up a few cute containers from CB2, made my own label (printed it out on label stock), and poured the pretty pink salt into the giftable jars. I also love to add a few drops of lavender essential oil to up the relaxation factor.

waterTip #2 Drink it up. One of the best things for our skin is water, water, and more water, ESPECIALLY after you’ve taken a long soak.

bedtimeTip #3 Moisturize. After a bath, I like to put on a quick layer of moisturizer. I’ve been using the AVEENO® Skin Relief Gentle Scent™ lately and I love the subtle soothing scent of chamomile and how light it feels going on.

bedtimeTip #4 SLEEP! The best thing for skin health has to be to get that beauty sleep. As a new mama I am still pretty sleep obsessed and I have been going to bed closer to 9pm to get a full 8 hours. It takes me a while to wind down from the day, so the bathtime/bedtime routine is a big help. When I have a day that has been a little extra hectic, I make myself a cup of chamomile tea (yes, I double up on the chamomile) and mellow right out (this one is my recent favorite). Rupert’s family has a farm in England that grows chamomile and they distill it into essential oil and the smell of it takes me right back there every time.

So that’s it… bathe, drink, moisturize, and sleep. Obviously these are things we already do, so it’s just about tweaking the bath, and making getting plenty of the good stuff a priority.

This post was created in partnership with AVEENO®. As always, the thoughts and ideas are my own and are not indicative of the opinions or positions of AVEENO®.
