from the weekend: outdoor movie night & sunday walks

10.21.13weekendSaturday we celebrated our friend Audrey’s birthday with an outdoor movie night in her backyard. We all got cozy under blankets and watched Breakfast at Tiffany’s while munching on Belgium waffles and mimosas. It was a pretty perfect night.

Sunday we worked some more on the house and took a long stroll by the water, which is becoming a sunday evening ritual that feels like a good way to wind down, clear our heads, and get ready for the new week.

Did you guys do anything out of the ordinary this weekend?

smitten links 02

link-love-octoberMorocco is at the top of my list of places to see and this mini guide almost cured the serious case of wanderlust I’ve got going on right now.

This fashion show is straight out of a dream.

An instagram feed to make your mouth water.

I literally gasped when I came across the work of these Architects.

Happy Friday!

home progress: paint!

living-room-paintedThe guys finished off the new opening from the living room to the family room and just in time to paint! (remember how it looked before, much improved.)

living room - paintedAhhh white paint. It makes everything look better (you can still see that yellow mocking me from the hallway but don’t worry I will fix him soon). I may be bringing in some other colors down the road and maybe some wallpaper, but for now I’m loving the blank slate.

More after the jump…

A Sunny Afternoon on 100 Layer Cake

a sunny afternoon, 100 layer cakea sunny afternoon picnic, 100 layer cakea sunny afternoon, 100 layer cakea sunny afternoon picnic, 100 layer cakeWhen our picnic baskets and serving boards get into the hands of the 100 layer cake ladies you know it’s going to be good, especially when Annie McElwain is behind the camera. I died over the entire shoot and we were tickled to see our pieces being enjoyed by Jillian and her beautiful family. See all of the photos here including a wardrobe change for Jillian into a jaw dropping gold dress and the most darling moments with her little boy.

framing my flamingo

Remember the Flying Flamingo from my color palette inspiration? Well I got the print!! and I went big… 30″ x 40″ big, to be exact. I took it straight to Michaels where they do custom archival framing. I was a little scared to pass off my new treasured Sharon Montrose print to someone else, but at my framing appointment they treated it like gold with white gloves and all. I can’t wait to see the finished piece.

So, for now I will have to continue to ogle at all of the prints online until I get mine back home.

The Animal Print Shop by Sharon MontroseLet me just say, I have wanted a Sharon Montrose print for reaally long time. Seriously, the hardest part was trying to decide which one. Here are a few of my personal favorites.

sharon montrose, Animal Print ShopThe clean backgrounds really let the animals shine and I can’t help but anthropomorphize each one, thinking that the llama smirking at me must be the class clown or the stoic cougar is hiding something behind those beautiful eyes. I could stare at these all day.

If you aren’t familiar with Sharon’s work I highly suggest popping over to the Animal Print Shop. Just don’t blame me if you lose hours poring over each photo. ;)

from the weekend: puppies & brunch

10.13.13-weekendThis weekend a friend asked me to go kitten shopping with her and of course while we were at the Much Love mobile rescue tents (where I adopted both Pikku and Cracker) I found my way over to the dogs and fell helplessly in love with these two, Fiddle & Banjo. I sat and snuggled with them as they were climbing in my lap and being ridiculously adorable. The good news is that Much Love has already taken these guys out of the shelter after being found in some bushes in Penmar Park, so they are getting taken care of in a foster home but they need to find a forever home! It would be completely heartbreaking if these two get split up, (seriously it was keeping me up last night) they are brothers and completely attached at the hip (plus two dogs are wayyy better then one dog anyway). If any of you LA folks are looking for a super sweet and cuddly duo or know anyone that is please pass on their info! I reaaaaly want to see them go to a great home TOGETHER!

oh and pre-puppy madness my weekend was filled with yummy brunches and a million not so yummy errands.
