from the weekend: road trip

road tripThis weekend I headed back from Palm Springs with one of my best gals after a little retreat called designer vaca (more on that later). On the route back we stopped at Hadley’s Fruit Orchard specifically for their banana-date shake and that prompted us to make another stop for a batch of in-and-out french fries. I gotta have that mix of salty with sweet, which is why I thought to bring my house guest to Tasting Kitchen the next morning for my favorite breakfast of chicken & waffles. Seriously delicious.

Hope you indulged a little this weekend too!

interior color palette

color palette inspirationWhile the dirty work is underway, I’ve started planning the direction that I’d like to take the interior, starting with the color palette. This is roughly what I have in mind for the living, dining, and kitchen area.

Since the rooms will all be open into each other I want to pull from the same palette, and all of these images together have a a beautiful mix of muted neutrals as well as pops of pink, coral, green & blue so there will be plenty of different combinations to choose from (and a healthy mix of feminine and masculine). I tend to gravitate towards a slightly more masculine aesthetic in my interiors so I am pushing myself a little bit with the introduction of pink… but I’m liking it already.

home progress: plans & demo

kitchen demo planHere is a look at how we want to open things up to the kitchen.

When we were searching for a house we saw so many where the kitchen was its own separate tiny room in the very back of the house that we thought we were just going to have to settle for that and be oh so sad. But then… we walked into this house where the kitchen was only separated by a silly little wall. With just a little easy demo (we hope) the space will become that more open and inclusive kitchen, living, & dining space that we weren’t ready to fully give up on.

So here we go!

kitchen progress demoS*#& is flying over here as the demo is in full swing in both the kitchen and the living / family room. It doesn’t seem like that long ago when we were doing all this for the cabin (Is renovation addiction a real thing? I think I’ve got it).

See all of the progress so far and our plans after the jump.

from the weekend: lingered upon meals & home progress

09.22.13-weekendWhile we’ve started work on the kitchen we are happily using it as an excuse to try out all the restaurants that we haven’t gotten around to before. This weekend while we weren’t eating, we were going through boxes, doing more furniture shopping, and making plans for the garden. This is my first time having a yard, outside of my parents house when I was growing up, so it is kind of exciting thinking of all the possibilities while wandering around a nursery.

Hope you had a nice weekend.

in my bag: palm springs

in my bag // smitten studioI’m already planning my wardrobe for a Palm Springs retreat next week. I’ll be heading there with a big group of talented ladies for some fun in the sun. My bags are packed and I’m ready for a weekend in the desert heat.

bedroom inspiration

bedroom inspiration // smitten studioHere are some bedrooms that I’ve been swooning over lately. I seem to be really drawn to pops of color in a mostly white room as all of these fall into that category. Our last bedroom was full of color and I was right at home there, however I still do love a monochromatic space like the ones below (especially when pattern on pattern comes to play).

bedroom inspiration black and white // smitten studioLuckily we have two bedrooms in this house, so maybe I’ll just do one of each? Although, I’m pretty sure I’ll want to sleep in the room with color. :)
