Happy Weekend!

palm-springs-gold-flamingosI’m so happy to be heading out to Palm Springs tonight for a little R&R weekend in the sun. The last time I was there was for my 30th birthday where these gold flamingos stole the show… and these guys do get around! They also more recently made a cameo appearance at Amanda’s Bridal Shower here in LA.  I think they are going to stay at home for this trip but you never know when they could pop up again… you just can keep a gold flamingo down.

cabin progress: kitchen update

Kitchen-progress-backsplash-hardwarekitchen-progress-backsplash-hardwareHere is the current state of the kitchen… we are getting close to being done now! A few new things we have accomplished since the last update are:

1. The subway tile backsplash is up and ready to be grouted
2. We put on all the cabinet hardware

To see the sources for all of the pieces in our kitchen look here.

Still to do in the kitchen:
1. Grout the backsplash (still waffling here between dark or light grout).
2. Install shelving on the back wall
3. To wallpaper or not to wallpaper? Originally we were going to put up this wallpaper above the backsplash but now that everything is coming together and looking so bright and clean and white we are kind of loving it just like that… hmm more decisions.

Take a look here to see the rest of our cabin renovation and progress.

pattern spy: the grid

Maybe it’s the graphic designer in me but I like a simple clean grid pattern. Here are a few that you can wear and decorate or dine with.

1: Zipline Skirt from Madewell  //  2: Pillow Shams from Target  //  3: Grid Washi Tape from The Hach  //  4: Mormor Dinnerware designed by Gry Fager for Normann Copenhagen from Huset

from the weekend: sunday hike

20120924-094308.jpgThis weekend we spent some time catching up on things around the house and took a few breaks to enjoy the fall weather, that feels like summer, in LA by taking the dogs on a good hike. It was much appreciated by our little furry kids.

Pikku even jumped the glass fence to make a little cameo. Little stinker!

reading rooms: the hundred year old man who…

readingrooms: the hundred year old man who...I admit that I totally judged this book by its cover, but in a good way… The great illustration and hand lettering (design done by  Fraser Muggeridge Studio) immediately drew me in and then the words (written by Jonas Jonasson) kept me interested. I am a little more than halfway through it now and am really enjoying it. And then there is this room! It’s Antique dealer Florence Lopez’s Parisian studio, as shown in Architectural Digest Spain.

So, I had the idea for a new column to share both books and spaces that I enjoy and that have a common aesthetic. Hopefully, it will not only show that inspiration can be found anywhere but help to grow my reading list.
