home progress: bathroom update

bathroom renovation // vintage credenza vanity, round mirror // smitten studioHey guys our bathroom is finished! I still have to add in the final accessories (towel hooks, toilet paper holder, soap dispensers, rug, etc. etc) but at least we have a brand spanking new and usable bathroom. We also just passed our final inspection and everything got approved by the city, so our 2 bed/1bath just officially went to a 2 bed/2 bath (with a new laundry room). Yay!

The reason for the HUGE delay in posting was because we also ran into a big problem with the tile job. After the grout went in, the color was blotchy and that was only emphasized by the fact that all the lines were uneven thicknesses. The guy assured us that it just had to finished drying and it would be uniform.

Well, we waited and waited and the blotchiness never went away (you can kind of see it here). We tried to get the guy back, but never could track him down. Finally, just when I was about to give up and have our brand new tiled shower and floors just look like dirty old ones, a guy on the crew that had been working on the rest of the renovation came in, scraped out all of the grout, and re-did the entire space (and the angels sang, taa daaaaaa).

from the weekend: beach days & shark week nights

santa monica palms // smitten studioHappy Monday, I hope your week is off to a good start. I’m slowly coming around from a relaxing weekend filled with beach time, a sunday hike, the supermoon, and the kick off to shark week! Rupe says it is mandatory viewing and I was hooked at Colossus.

house update: finished bed & shopping for nightstands

recovered-bedNot a lot has happened in the bedroom since I last checked-in, however we did finish re-upholstering the old bed (more on that in a minute). Now, we are on the hunt for some nightstands. I stole the little plant stand from next to the dresser so I have something to put a glass of water on at night but Rupe still has nowhere to put his Harlequin novels (what’s a man to do!). So, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite nightstand options to try and narrow the search.

nightstand round-up // smitten studioGood nightstands are like the unicorn of home furnishings. So hard to find! I tend to like larger, more dresser sized nightstands like the campaign style or the double drawer, but in this space they might be a bit tight. I also love the look of a simple brass side table like the libby or the hexagon but they don’t offer up any storage. I thought I had found the perfect one when West Elm came out with the Penelope nightstand but they only make the all white version in large and, by george, I wanted the wood one in LARGE. What to do, what to do.

in my bag: palos verdes beach day

in my bag // palos verdes // smitten studioEvery weekend we can, we pack up the car and head to one of the beautiful beaches up or down the coast. While we only live within spitting distance from Venice Beach, I love the rocky (and less crazy town) beaches in Palos Verdes and Malibu.  Here’s what I pack for a picture perfect day at the beach.
