my style: geode print pant & split back sweater

I like the silhouette, but often times ‘wide leg’ would also mean ‘no butt’ and then there was the question of what top to pair it with to not look wide all over. All that changed when I saw these Phillip Lim printed beauties and I fell back on the love side of things. Luckily Chico’s also sent me this top from their new Black Label line and its’ business in front, party in back style was perfect for showing off a wide leg pant that didn’t make my rear completely disappear!

What about you guys, how are you on the love/hate scale toward wide leg trousers?

p.s. these images are taken at one of my favorite LA spots, the Griffith Observatory as part of Chico’s #destinationfabulous. Check out some of their favorite travel destinations on their pin board here.

renovation update: finished floors & bathroom progress

kitchen-progressWe are getting closer to the end of our renovation and I CAN NOT wait to start moving our things back in, hang some art, and just enjoy some time at home. I can’t believe how much counter space we have now that that wall is history. The new pieces of marble for the extension of the countertop and backsplash are in place, and all that is left to do hang the upper cabinets, put the doors on the new base cabinets, and paint the toe-kicks.

shopbop sale!

shopbop sale!I haven’t been doing a ton of clothes shopping lately with my mind and wallet on the house so much, so when I heard about Shopbop’s big sale, happening now, I just had to stop everything and stock up on some new spring & summer duds (ok, I found a few home items in there too, I can’t help it). They are giving 25% off all regular priced items (with code INTHEFAMILY14) and I thought I’d give you the heads up and share what made it into my shopping cart. Happy hunting!

from the weekend: spring blooms

spring blooms // sarah sherman samuel“When I heard that there were artists, I wished I could some time be one. If I could only make a rose bloom on paper, I thought I should be happy! Or if I could at last succeed in drawing the outline of winter-stripped boughs as I saw them against the sky, it seemed to me that I should be willing to spend years in trying.”
-Lucy Larcom

Last week was a pretty hectic week that ended up spilling right over into the weekend. On the plus side, I’m working on some exciting new things with A Sunny Afternoon and for the blog, and I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel of our renovation. We did sneak outside a few times to enjoy a break in the day and noticed that Spring is in full bloom around our LA neighborhood.

Hope you spent some time doing something you love. x

pattern spy: woven

pattern spy woven with tassles // smitten studiopattern spy woven with tassles // smitten studioI love it when modern designers and artists breath new life into an age old traditional craft, especially when the result is anything like each of these wondrous woven works of art. The textural pattern from hand woven pieces can make my heart skip a beat and anytime I come across one of Native Vine’s gorgeous wall hangings it really goes all aflutter (I covet every piece). And how about that top and necklace?! I’d say they’re both even frame worthy!
