I have already began making plans and dreaming about how the new space could look. I’ve started up a few new pinterest boards for inspiration, started sourcing some furniture, and have a fresh notebook and measuring tape on me at all times, so I think I’m ready!
Here are a couple kitchens that I’m loving the look of. As you can see I’m still a fan of the white subway tile, I can’t help it. To change it up from the cabin though, I like the idea of doing the cabinets in a darker color and I’m also hoping that I can swing some gorgeous marble countertops.
Rupe and I had such a great experience re-doing the cabin that we wanted to find a home in LA that we could also really make our own. After a long house search and riding the LA real estate roller coaster we finally landed on a little bungalow in our favorite neighborhood.
So, here we go again.
First up on the what will later be called the “before” tour is the kitchen and dining area…
which is a bit rough right now. Mis-matched countertops can look great but in this case? not so much.
The cabinets were custom built and original to the house but they are in reaaally rough shape. At this point I’m not sure if we will try and salvage what is there by refinishing them or put in all new. Oh so many decisions to come.
We are so glad that the original hardwood floors are in pretty good nick and go throughout the rest of the house (with the exception of a carpeted addition that I’ll get to later, eek).
Our old townhouse had high ceilings, wide open spaces, and rooms that in comparison to our new bungalow now seem enormous. Most all of our furniture doesn’t even fit in these smaller rooms but we are going to do our best to open things up, add on a little space, and get this cozy house feeling like home.
Take a look after the jump for the really real before photos (ie what we saw when we went into the house for the first time). READ MORE
Yesterday, on A Beautiful Mess, I shared a final home tour of our townhouse that we just sold. I’m still finding it hard to believe that we won’t be going back here again, but I’m looking forward to settling into our new place.
This is my favorite image of the bunch that I took while I was in the middle of creating the debut collection for A Sunny Afternoon. I already miss that chalkboard wall big time! Head over to A Beautiful Mess to see the rest.
Ok guys, today the voting opened for the 2013 American Made awards and I could use your help! There are so many amazing makers who, like me, have quit their day job to follow their handcrafted dream and I hope you’ll support me by heading over and casting a vote (or two or three or six!) for me. :)
American Made is a movement founded by Martha Stewart that spotlights the maker, supports the local, and celebrates the handmade. It’s made up of people and communities who have turned their passion for quality craftsmanship and well-designed goods into a way of life.
Read all about this great opportunity and cast your votes here. (you can vote up to 6 times a day, everyday!).
We’ve moved in to the new place but since there is a lot of work we want to get done before bringing our furniture in, we’ve been living in more of a construction zone than home. Which hasn’t been all bad, an empty house has meant furniture shopping and lots of yummy meals out.
