readingrooms: the hundred year old man who...I admit that I totally judged this book by its cover, but in a good way… The great illustration and hand lettering (design done by  Fraser Muggeridge Studio) immediately drew me in and then the words (written by Jonas Jonasson) kept me interested. I am a little more than halfway through it now and am really enjoying it. And then there is this room! It’s Antique dealer Florence Lopez’s Parisian studio, as shown in Architectural Digest Spain.

So, I had the idea for a new column to share both books and spaces that I enjoy and that have a common aesthetic. Hopefully, it will not only show that inspiration can be found anywhere but help to grow my reading list.

from the weekend: san clemente wedding

9.17-weekendRupert and I love a little road trip down the coast and this weekend we got be guests at the highly anticipated wedding of our friends, Amanda & Tim, down in San Clemente… so it was definitely a win win situation. Amanda looked seriously gorgeous (was there ever any doubt?) and every single detail of the day was soooo special. I can’t wait to see how Max Wanger & Shark Pig captured it all. Make sure to keep checking 100 layer cake to see just how beautiful it all was.

pattern spy: foxes

Pattern-spy-foxesI don’t know what it is about foxes, but they are so freaking adorable. Aubin & Wills have always supplied me with some fox love (you can see their foxy tea towels in my cabin kitchen here) and even though I am cheating with including Henry the Fox in the round up (since he isn’t exactly a fox pattern), I couldn’t resist… how could you possibly say no to that sweet face?

cabin progress: fireplace hearth

cabin fireplace progress 2Here is a look at the new marble tile freshly installed… just needs grout!

fireplace-hearth-progressWe also painted the little air vent grate thingies white to match the rest of the fireplace, which kind of disguises them better, but I wouldn’t mind finding new ones all together.

cabin fireplace progressAnother new addition that we picked up at a nearby antique shop is the big old brass bucket to hold the firewood.

To Do’s for the fireplace:
1. reface that sad cinder block wall
2. grout and trim out the hearth
3. find new air vent things (what do you call those?)
4. find a new spark guard and some cool andirons
5. hang a picture for goodness sake

To see how it looked before look here. To see more of my fireplace progress/plans take a look here and to see the all the progress on the cabin look here.
